Plans for Coventry’s huge Friargate project have been revised in an attempt to cut down on traffic.
The scheme – which would see, among other things, 14 new office blocks, a hotel and a new park built near the train station – has had to be altered because nearby residents were worried about the volume of cars in their neighbourhood.
There’ll now be a dedicated taxi lane, and drivers will still be able to access the Ring Road from Warwick Road via the city centre.
It’s thought Friargate, which would be built on derelict land, will cost £1.5 billion to complete.
Local councillor Kevin Foster said: “(The developers) have done little to address rat-running issues, particularly through Earlsdon.”
“There clearly needs to be something done around the railway situation, which is in a poor condition – but the project needs to balance the needs of people living in the local area.”
It’s as yet unclear as to when building work will commence. {When pigs flyDM]
