Preacher Leslie Warner has had some terrifying experiences in his 88 years including coming under attack by Japanese pilots during the Second World War.
But he says spending more than 24 hours stuck in the bath after falling at his Coventry home was one of the most traumatising ordeals of his life.
Leslie, of Scots Lane, Coundon, took a tumble on Saturday morning trying to get out of the tub.
After shivering in the drained bath for hours Leslie, a lay preacher for the last 72 years, turned to God for salvation and was eventually rescued by a member of his church, who popped round to find out why he hadn’t turned up for the Sunday service.
And despite his ordeal Leslie says he’s already able to laugh about the experience.
He joked: “You have to see the funny side. I told them at church they will have to provide pegs for everyone’s noses because I’m never going to have a bath again.”
But he admitted that at the time it was a nightmare he thought wouldn’t end.
“It was dreadful. I went to have a bath and for the first time, I just couldn’t get out. I tried everything to get out but without success. No one knew I was there,” he said.
