The council in Coventry are saying sorry after a website for people who want to have a party for the Royal Wedding said they couldn’t play any music.



Initially the page also said any event to mark Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton on 29th April would have to finish by 9pm.

But officials say the restrictions on there were incorrect and you can have things like entertainment and alcohol, but you need to tell them first so they can tell you if you’ll need a licence.

A City Council spokesman said:

“We are fully committed to encouraging local people to hold street parties in celebration of the forthcoming Royal Wedding in April. Our overall aim is clearly to make the organisation of parties as easy, inexpensive and straightforward as possible.”

“We would like to make it clear that there is no ban on people eating food, consuming alcohol or playing music.”

“Initially we want to hear from local people on whether they want to host a street party. From that first contact, we will be able to advise people on the next steps.”

“Some people may need no further help, whilst others may need simple advice on whether they need licences for selling goods or playing music.”

People in the city need to register their interest by 25th February for a party to take place, for which you can apply here.

Warwickshire County County’s deadline to register to hold a party is a few weeks later – on 28th March.
