Protest over petrol station's bid for 24hr alcohol licence

Residents fighting a bid to sell alcohol 24 hours a day at a Coventry petrol station claim it could lead to a rise in crime.



Stoke Park service station, in Binley Road, already has limited licence to sell booze but is looking to extend its hours to 24 hours a day seven days a week.

But neighbours fear the garage could become a crime hotspot and cause more noise and anti-social behaviour if the extended licence is granted.

The proposal will be considered by the council’s licensing committee on Thursday February 3.

In a letter to the council, one resident said: “I live immediately opposite the petrol service station – it’s in the middle of a residential area and we already suffer from noisy motorists filling up with petrol at all hours of the night.

" I think 24 hours a day, seven days a week is totally unacceptable in this location due to the disturbance that will be caused in the area.

“Within a few hundred yards there are already a pub and two existing off licences at Lidl and Iceland. My observations are that the shop is physically closed from late evening until morning and that all sales during these hours are carried out through a window.
