Protesters against the proposed London to Birmingham route will gather at Stoneleigh Park as the government opens its consultation process into the HS2 scheme.

The convention on February 19 is being billed as an opportunity for people to learn more about the plan.

Lizzy Williams, chairman of organisers Stop HS2, said: “We’re being asked to allocate £34 billion to a vanity project when people are losing jobs and services.

"Not enough people know about HS2 or what it is. We are holding this event to try and spread the word before it is too late.”

A host of guest speakers will talk about the plan. Tickets cost £12. Visit http://stophs2.org/ to book.
