Stratford MP to auction off musical tie for charity

Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:07 pm

The Conservative MP for Stratford-upon-Avon is to auction off a piece of clothing after it lead to an embarrassing incident.

Nadhim Zahawi was speaking in a House of Commons debate about the Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) when his tie emitted a tune on Wednesday.

Mr Zahawi was wearing the tie to support the charity Beating Bowel Cancer.

He has now returned the musical neckwear to the charity.

Deputy Speaker Dawn Primarolo said he should be "more selective" in his choice of neckwear in the chamber.

Mr Zahawi said as the tie had created so much interest he had decided to give it back to the charity so it could auction it on eBay.

He also apologised to the House of Commons.
