The company, which runs services across Birmingham, the Black Country and Coventry, said the new fares reflected rising business costs.

Some of its fares, such as the adult short hop ticket, went up by a quarter in June 2010 although its adult single fares remained the same.

But now the adult single is going up by 10p. Evening saver prices are being discontinued.

In Birmingham, the adult single will now cost £1.80 while bus users in Coventry will pay £1.60. Child fares are going up by 5p.

A spokesman for the firm said the new fares would help support "massive reinvestment" in the bus network, including 120 new buses.

"Fare increases have been kept to a minimum and West Midlands bus and tram prices remain amongst the most competitive of any major UK city," he said.
