The Camp Hill ward representative had two more years to serve at the Town Hall



A Labour councillor has quit prompting a borough council by-election in Nuneaton.

Councillor Sharon Dhillon was elected as Camp Hill representative back in 2024 and still had two years left to serve.

But Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has confirmed that she has resigned for health reasons.

This means, only a week after the local elections, a by-election will now be called.

Labour will be looking to cling on to the seat following losses at last week's elections which left Reform UK as the biggest party at the Town Hall after group took 15 seats.

Currently Labour has 11 seats, the Conservative Party has nine seats and the Green Party has three seats.

The by-election is set to be contested by all of the political groups.

Whichever group wins the by-election, the council would still remain No Overall Control as 20 seats are needed for a group to have the majority.

In a statement, a borough council spokesperson said: "Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council can confirm it has received the resignation of Sharon Dhillion, ward member for Camp Hill, as a councillor.

“The Proper Officer has acknowledged the required two requests from registered electors for the seat to be filled, and a by-election will be called.

“Details of the by-election, including candidates, will be communicated with residents in the near future.

"Former councillor Dhillon’s resignation is due to health grounds and the council politely requests that her privacy is respected on this matter.”
