A consultation on the future of Balsall Common and Berkswell Parish Councils is under way
PARISH Councillors are set to discuss plans to merge Berkswell and Balsall Common Parish Councils.
Berkswell Parish Council will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday (January 13) in the Jordan Room at St John Baptist Church on Church Lane to discuss the future.
This forms part of the second of the governance review for plans to merge Balsall Parish Council and Berkswell Parish Councils.
The Parish Councils believe Balsall Common should now come under a single parish council, to better serve the whole community.
It is considered that a merger of the two parishes will yield the best result for all, providing Balsall Common with a single council but allowing the conservation areas of Temple Balsall and Berkswell village to continue to be supported, both financially and practically, along with the rural areas of both parishes.
Solihull Council has published three draft proposals for consideration by residents.
They are: option A – merge the two parish councils and create four parish wards, option B – alter the current boundary to the existing railway line (West Coast Main Line) or option C – continue with the existing arrangements.
Both Parish Councils voted by majority for option A.
