Food worth more than £900 stolen in crime spree at Bell Green Farmfoods

A man has been arrested after someone stole groceries worth almost £1000 from frozen produce supermarket Farmfoods. The individual was arrested after the budget outlet in Bell Green's Riley Square was targeted.

It is understood the items were stolen across a period of time, with officers saying altogether the thefts totted up to more than £900.

A spokesman for the Longford Neighbourhood Police unit said: "The team have arrested a male for multiple counts of shoplifting at Farmfoods in Riley Square.

"The total value of his shoplifting has amounted to just over £900. He is currently spending the night in our custody block following his arrest this afternoon."

Business crime and retail theft is said to be a priority for the local police team currently, particularly in the run up to Christmas when reports of shoplifting tends to increase.

A spokesman for Henley and Longford Police added: "We continue to work closely with partners to reduce shop theft and support local businesses.

"It will remain a priority until the end of December as officers continue to work hard in identifying, arresting and charging suspects, numerous positive outcomes for the month."

The force has listed the following stores from across their patch that have been targeted, including Asda on Brade Drive, Co-op on Woodway Lane, the Crosspoint retail park and Home Bargains on Ansty Road.
