A pensioner had their gold necklace stolen in a distraction theft in Coventry. It happened in Radford.
Officers investigating the incident said the elderly victim was approached on Burnaby Road. It is believed the suspect placed a cheap necklace in their hand and took off their gold necklace before quickly fleeing.
Police said the victim was not threatened but described the incident as 'very upsetting.' Witnesses have been urged to get in touch with Coventry Police.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “An elderly victim had their gold necklace stolen by way of a distraction theft on Burnaby Road. No force or threat was used, however, this is still a very upsetting incident for the victim.
“When out and about, please be cautious of strangers trying to initiate physical contact, like trying to hug you, shaking your hand or trying to place jewellery on you. We would also advise keeping jewellery and valuables hidden when in public.”
Elsewhere in Radford, a property on Bulwer Road was burgled between 6.30pm on August 1 and 10.30am on August 2. Items including a 55-inch TV and jewellery were stolen, Coventry Police said.
Vehicles have also been tampered with in Radford. One was broken into on Cheveral Avenue, and a front grille and trim were taken from a Peugeot on Lanchester Road.
