Smoke was seen billowing as a large fire took hold in Coventry. It happened in Henley Green yesterday evening (July 2).

Firefighters were called to Moat House Park at around 8.20pm. Approximately 200 square metres of grassland was alight, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Crews from Foleshill Fire Station tackled the blaze using a main jet. It is believed to have been started deliberately, with investigations into the incident said to be ongoing.

Nobody was believed to have been injured. Anyone with information about who started the fire should get in touch with West Midlands Police.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We responded to an incident at Moat House Park in Coventry at around 8.20pm on Wednesday. One fire engine and a Brigade Response Vehicle (BRV) attended, crewed by firefighters from Foleshill Fire Station.

“It was a fire involving approximately 200 square metres of grassland. Crews used a main jet and fire beaters to extinguish the fire, which is thought to have been started deliberately.”

You wouldn't believe how many properties in Coventry are named 'Moat House'. There are at least two within sight of where I live in Spon End, as I tried to explain one night to a fireman who was lost.

Love the kiddies tree-house in the back garden though!
