'Miscommunication' between landowners and contractors led to industrial waste being dumped in a Coventry field, the city council has confirmed. There was anger amid residents earlier this week when gravel and debris from road works done on behalf of City Fibre on Grange Road in Longford were dumped in an adjacent field.

A resident saw a digger driver depositing waste over the weekend. When challenged, it is claimed the worker said he was given permission by housing developer Taylor Wimpey who has plans to build 262 houses on the site.

With the issue put to both Taylor Wimpey and City Fibre, the former says they did not give permission for the waste to be dumped, while the latter has insisted their contractors were given the green light.

Coventry City Council has today released a statement to confirm the waste has now been removed and explained why the incident arose.

"We can confirm the land is now cleared," a spokesman told CoventryLive. "Our officers found that on this occasion, there was a miscommunication between the contractor and landowner.

"We carry out regular checks and monitor hotspots in this area but rely on residents reporting issues to us when they are spotted. Anyone can report fly-tipping anonymously by going to: https://www.coventry.gov.uk/flytipping or calling 08085 834333."

When approached about the claims, a City Fibre spokesman previously claimed their "contractor was granted permission by a local developer to temporarily leave building materials at the site". But a spokesman for Taylor Wimpey said they could "confirm that we did not give permission for any waste material to be deposited on the site".
