Shots fired on Coventry street as police say 'we're stepping up patrols'

Police have confirmed a man was rushed to hospital after shots were fired in Coventry on Tuesday night (15 April). Emergency Services were called to Tarquin Close in Willenhall around 11.30pm.

The man taken to hospital had an injured hand - it's believed the wounds are not life-threatening.

A heavy police presence, including a cordon on the street, has been in place through the night. Officers will be more visible in the area in the coming days, it has been confirmed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after shots were fired in Coventry. We were called to Tarquin Close shortly before midnight last night (15 April) after shots were heard.

"Officers attended and a man was taken to hospital with a hand injury, though this is not thought to be life-threatening. We are remaining at the scene today to carry out further enquiries and are stepping up patrols in the area throughout this week.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service previously said: "We were called by the police to Tarquin Close, Willenhall, Coventry at 11.35pm.

"One ambulance attended the scene and provided trauma treatment to a man who had been injured. He was conveyed to hospital for further care."

It is unknown at this stage how the injured man received his injuries. West Midlands Police has been asked for more information. CoventryLive attended the scene around 9am the morning after the incident (16 April). Multiple cordons are placed across the end of Tarquin Close, the part that is closer to St Jude's Crescent, splitting that part of the street into sections.

A local, who did not want to be named, said: "I don’t know what’s happened but it’s a bit close to home isn’t it?"
