Investigations have been ongoing for just over 24 hours
Police have confirmed why part of woodland in Nuneaton was taped off. The playing fields area around the back of George Eliot School, and around the woodland area off Marston Lane between Maple Park and the Wembrook has been taped off all day.
Earlier today, Warwickshire Police told CoventryLive that officers were investigating an 'incident' but was not in a position to reveal any further details. Now the force has confirmed that they were investigating a report of a sexual offence.
However, in a statement, the force has said that, following an investigation, they now believe no offence has taken place in the area. The force added that they also identified no risk to the public.
The full Warwickshire Police statement reads: "People in Nuneaton may have been aware of a large police presence in the area around the playing fields in Raveloe Drive yesterday and today. This was in response to the report of a sexual offence. Following thorough enquiries, we now believe no offence has taken place in the area.
"Please be assured we have identified no risk to the public. Thank you to everyone in the area for your patience and to everyone who supported our enquiries."
