It comes as the RSPCA reports a huge rise in the number of abandoned animals

A rabbit that was dumped in a tiny hamster cage outside a Coventry shop is looking for a new home. Norman the fluffy bunny was found by volunteers outside the RSPCA Coventry and District charity shop back in September.

And now the charity has confirmed that Norman is up for adoption. He was named after the street the shop is in, Norman Place Road, and it appears to have stuck.

His carers say he has settled into the RSPCA rehoming centre well and although he can be a bit timid, he soon gains confidence.

They added: “He enjoys the freedom of exploring the rabbitry floor but will soon come running over to you for food. He can be a bit wriggly to hold but fine to handle and he enjoys a bit of fuss.”

Norman is looking for a home where he can go outside and explore and, as he can be hand fed he could live with children of primary school age. He may also be able to live with a female rabbit.

The RSPCA says rabbits are active, inquisitive animals and need lots of space to perform their natural behaviours.

Find out more about adopting Norman here. The animal charity has issued a warning about the huge rise in the number of abandoned pets in Coventry and Warwickshire as the cost of living crisis bites. More information on adopting an animal can be found on their website here.
