Jessica Simpson's lawyer has written to Star magazine demanding that it retract its recent cover story.
The article, which linked Simpson to golfer Tiger Woods, was titled 'Tiger & Jessica: The Shocking Inside Story' and claimed that the couple had spent a "flirtatious weekend" together.
Simpson later described the story as a "joke" and a "lie" on her Twitter account.
Gossip Cop reports that the star's lawyer has now sent the magazine a three-page letter requesting that it be withdrawn.
He wrote: "The most 'shocking' thing about the story is Star's reckless and reprehensible attempt to sell magazines by falsely implicating Ms Simpson in the current controversy surrounding Tiger Woods's extra-marital activities, despite the absolute absence of any factual basis to do so."
The attorney stated that "every accusation... is entirely false" and that the article is "utterly beyond the pale of responsible journalism".
The letter also said that the story constituted defamation and warned: "Ms Simpson reserves the right to pursue any and all appropriate avenues of legal address against Star."
