Only one in four of all train services across Coventry and Warwickshire are set to run today as the largest rail strike in 30 years kicks into gear. Around 40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Network Rail and 13 train operators are walking out in the first of three days of industrial action.

The strikes will impact passengers significantly with all train stations in our region affected. Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway, Chiltern Railway AND West Midlands Railway will all be running reduced services through Coventry and Warwickshire.

Chiltern, Avanti, West Midlands Trains and Great Western Railway are accepting mutual ticket acceptance to help passengers circumnavigate the strikes. With so much upheaval on the cards it's difficult to keep tabs on which routes and services are actually running.

We have put together a comprehensive state-of-play list below to help keep you on the move.

Avanti West Coast

AWC will be operating 'a significantly reduced timetable'. That means only seven trains on the London Euston to Glasgow Central northbound route will be passing through Rugby, Nuneaton and Coventry.

In relation to the stops at Coventry, that's the 10.02, 11.02, 11.57, 12.59, 14.03, 15.02 and 16.02. On the southbound route, the times at Coventry are 9.11, 10.11, 11.07, 12.12, 13.11, 14.11, 15.12 and 16.12. Rugby will have one more service, calling at 17.24.

CrossCountry Trains

CrossCountry said it was 'disappointed with this action by the RMT which we believe to be premature, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience it will cause'. Its three services in our region are severely affected.

These are the Birmingham New Street to Reading route, calling at Coventry and Leamington, BNS to Leicester and BNS to Stanstead Airport, both calling at Water Orton, Coleshill Parkway and Nuneaton. Trains from Birmingham to Reading and Leicester will run once an hour, in both directions.

There are no trains on the BNS to Stanstead route.

London Northwestern Railway

Its two services in our region are affected - London Euston to Crewe and BNS to Northampton. There are no services on the first route and one train per hour on the second, which stops at Rugby, Coventry, Canley, Tile Hill and Berkswell. Eastbound (BNS to Northampton) the Coventry services are at 8.01, 8.46, 9.47, 10.47, 11.47, 12.48, 13.48, 14.46, 15.47, 16.47 and 17.47.

Going the other way, the stops at Coventry are at 8.11, 9.10, 10.10, 11.11, 12.10, 13.11, 14.15, 15.15, 16.14 and 17.18.

West Midlands Railway

It's a total wipeout as far as WMR's two routes in Coventry and Warwickshire are concerned. No trains will run on the Leamington to Nuneaton or Birmingham Snow Hill to Leamington/Stratford lines, in either direction.

Chiltern Railways

It's a similar story for Chiltern which has said none of its trains will run north of Banbury and those that are running further south are doing so with limited services. That has put paid to the operator's Birmingham to Banbury route, which usually calls at Lapworth, Hatton, Warwick Parkway, Warwick and Leamington on one line and at Claverdon, Bearley, Wilmcote, Stratford Parkway and Stratford on the second line.
