Vandals struck at a home in Coventry smashing an expensive Volkswagen Golf on Wednesday (May 11) morning. It happened outside a property in Canley at around 8am.

Two women are understood to have caused extensive damage to the vehicle. Speaking to CoventryLive, the homeowner said: "One woman was stood waiting on the pavement, the other woman pulled up and she got out, got a hammer off the woman waiting and then smashed my windows."

She explained that the two offenders had arrived in separate vehicles. It is understood one of the cars was a Vauxhall Corsa while the other was believed to be a Fiat. Although the homeowner distinctly recalls that one of the cars had a 'smashed back window.'

Witnesses say the offenders covered what they believe to be a hammer with a cloth to disguise the weapon moments before the frenzied attack. Understandably shaken by the ordeal, the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It was just a shock, my partner was shouting at them but by the time he got downstairs they had driven off."

She went on to explain that the attack has taken a significant toll on her mental health, saying: "Since my mental health isn’t the best right now it’s really put the brakes on my recovery. I have been out of work for the past few months trying my best, I’ve had to up my medication."

Adding: "It is truly devastating. It’s scary not knowing why or who, we don’t feel safe anymore. It makes us paranoid and anxious in our own home. I’ve worked non-stop since I was 16 only to have to use more money which I don’t have due to my mental health and now being unemployed." 'Worried' after the ordeal, the homeowner has now decided to install CCTV cameras.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Anyone who can help with our ongoing investigation should message us via Live Chat on our website west-midlands.police.uk quoting investigation number 20/451938/22."
