Firefighers had to rescue two teenagers from the steepest side of Mount Judd after they became stranded while trying to climb the famed landmark.

The pair, who have not been identified but were both young men, got stuck on the steepest side of the huge man-made mound earlier today (February 23).

High winds and loose footing left the pair panicking - so they dialled 999 for help.

White Watch from Nuneaton Fire Station, assisted by a crew from Atherstone, responded to their plea.

Crews had to use specialist at height equipment to enable them to traverse down the steep hill to rescue them.

Once rescued, they pair left in the care of West Midlands Ambulance service with no injuries.

However, they were left extremely shaken according to a spokesman for the Nuneaton-based station.

"The two teenagers had got half way up the steepest side and, due to the high winds and loose footing, didn't dare go any further, so called us.

"We would obviously advise children, or anyone, not to go up there because it is so dangerous," the spokesman said.

While it was once a rite of passage to climb Mount Judd, it is in fact trespassing and dangerous.

Alarmingly, children as young as five were spotted playing in the quarry back in 2018.
