Warwick District Council is set to remove a 10p 'convenience charge' when using the parking app

Warwick District Council is levelling the playing field when it comes to parking in any of its 29 off-street car parks.

Anyone using the RingGo app to pay for parking at council-run car parks currently pays a 10p 'convenience charge' for the privilege.

But the council is set to scrap that charge from March 1 in a move that means motorists will be faced with the same cost to park, whether they park by app, cash or card.

Alan Rhead, the council’s environment and neighbourhood services boss, said: "We are delighted to offer customers the option of using RingGo when paying to park in our off street and multi-storey facilities.

"It is convenient, as people don’t need to carry cash and users can also extend their stay remotely without having to return to their vehicles."

The optional SMS text message, to remind users when their parking is due to expire, will still be charged at 20p per message but users can opt out of having this service.

In addition to the option of RingGo, all WDC car parks across Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth now accept contactless payments by credit and debit cards as well as Apple Pay.
