Furious residents say their concerns about a 5G mobile mast near their homes in Nuneaton have been ignored.

They claim their petition to oppose the 18-metre monopole plus equipment cabinets in Wiclif Way fell on deaf ears.

Several residents in the Wiclif Way and Malvern Avenue also emailed the council directly to raise their concerns and objections to the plans.[bbciplayer][/bbciplayer]

Despite this, they say that they were only made aware that the plan had been given the go-ahead after the planning meeting had taken place.

"The surrounding residents are very angry and frustrated as we had a strong argument against the monopole being here and the council has decided to ignore it," said one of the Wiclif Way residents.

"In a recording of the planning meeting it's stated that a direct resident has a medical condition that will be severely affected by the mast.

"The council then comment to determine whether they should consider the health of one human being over the 'benefits of the mast for the community'. And of course, they chose the community like it's a good thing, when in fact, the mast does not benefit the community; the community does not want it here or need it."

The resident added that, as a result of the decision of the planning committee last week, they are now looking to move.

"'I am sure residents in the area of Nuneaton would be interested in hearing how little their feelings, health and opinions matter to Nuneaton and Bedworth Council and planning team," the householder added.
