Hundreds of CoventryLive readers have reacted to the new statue on the former IKEA building's roof.

It was the winner of Sky Arts' seven-part series, 'Landmark' and has been placed here to honour Ira Frederick Aldridge.

The final episode premiered on Monday night (October 18) and the statue was unveiled in Coventry yesterday morning (October 19) at 7.30am.

We reported on the news yesterday after doing a Facebook Live to show you the art work.

Ira was the first African American to manage a British theatre, and left his home in the early 1800s to escape discrimination. Three years later, aged just 20, he was appointed manager of Coventry Theatre.

He was well known for making anti-slavery speeches, sparking a movement for change in Coventry.

The statue cost £250,000 and has left viewers speechless - but not for the right reasons.

Many flocked to CoventryLive's Facebook page to let us know their thoughts.

Here's what some of them had to say...

Chris Girvin said: "Why you put an android Flava Flav doing a Nazi salute on IKEA?"

Kyle Armour said: "£250000 for something that looks like it's out of B&M."

Thomas Wright said: "Scrap men will be onto that by the weekend."

Scott Bremner said: "£250k and the city can enjoy the view of about £175k of it. The rest obscured by the blue wall."

Daniel Bennett said: "They could have contributed that towards building a new football stadium for CCFC."
