A woman has hit out at the council for allowing weeds to grow as high as grave stones at Coventry's Canley Crematorium.

The mourner, who asked to remain anonymous, said she was "appalled" at the state of the crem's cemetery when she visited earlier in the month, adding that allowing the weeds to grow so high was "disrespectful".

Coventry City Council were approached for a comment, with a spokesperson saying attempts are made to keep cemeteries maintained but a "perfect mix of sun and rain" meant grass and weeds had grown quicker than usual.

The woman, who did not want to be named, told CoventryLive: "I was so appalled. I contacted them on September 7 and it took them two more weeks to get round to it.

"They say they are short-staffed and about Covid, but it doesn't grow overnight and doesn't mean that things can't be kept to a certain standard.

"It is disrespectful to the people who have passed away and their memories, and also people have paid money for their gravestones.

"People like myself in Coventry can go up and do things, but people outside of Coventry can't just do that.

"I want to highlight this and let people know. Also the weeds will have been scattering so next year it could be ten times worse."

Yet again, CCC defend the indefensible. They are a right shower.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
