It can cause major issues for fire crews attending emergencies
Severn Trent Water has called on people in Coventry to stop forcing open hydrants to cool themselves down amid blistering temperatures.
The water company says the problem has been especially troublesome in Wood End where a number of customers have complained about supply interruptions and low pressure.
The illegal use of hydrants can severely hamper fire and rescue crews when responding to real-life emergencies and can also result in discoloured water supplies.
David Davies, Water Networks Regional Lead for Severn Trent, said: “We understand some customers in your area may be seeing low water pressure or even no water at all.
"This is unfortunately due to people in the area opening up our fire hydrants for fun and letting huge amounts of water go to waste, which is not at all helpful in this weather when we all need lots of water.
"We’re working with the local authorities to try and get things back to normal as quickly as we can. Please bear with us."
