A new Lidl supermarket will open in Warwick after plans were approved.

The store will open on the former Homebase on Emscote Road.

It will create 40 jobs for the area and have 97 parking spaces for customers.

Last year, plans for the budget supermarket were rejected over traffic concerns and lack of parking.

However at the planning meeting held on February 3, councillors were told that further evidence had been submitted.

Out of the 97 parking spaces, seven will be for disabled badge holders, eight for parent and children and two parking spaces will have electric car chargers.

There will also be eight cycle stands.

The plans for the store say: "The scheme brings a new food store offering to Warwick and surrounding areas whilst also providing wider choice to consumers, and generating new employment opportunities.

"This proposal will be constructed to a high quality with sensitivity to the local environment, employing contemporary design and materials to create an attractive building which is in-keeping with its surrounding built environment.

"The proposal utilises its locality to ensure good accessibility and promote sustainable transport methods."

It won't 'create' any new jobs. If anything it will destroy existing jobs in the retail sector.
