Nuneaton, Bedworth and Bulkington's Christmas light switch-ons have been cancelled.

But Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council leader, councillor Julie Jackson, said they will do 'all they can' to make the town and village centres cheerful for the festive season.

Coronavirus restrictions have led to the decision to cancel all three events.

The official countdown to Christmas always attracts thousands of people and the council has said it is not safe to hold the events this year.

“The safety of our residents is our top priority," the Town Hall leader said.

"Sadly, due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions on public gatherings, our programme of events is cancelled for the rest of this year, in common with towns and cities across the country.

“Despite this, so long as conditions allow, our market traders will continue to operate, our Christmas lights will be as bright as ever, and we will be doing what we can to make our town centres cheerful and welcoming through the winter period.”
