It is a temporary measure

Nuneaton's Screwfix store has been closed as a "precaution" over coronavirus concerns.

CoventryLive can reveal that the Hamilton Way-based store has been closed after a member of staff became unwell with potential Covid-19 symptoms.

A sign appeared on the door yesterday (August 18), which read: 'Unfortunately we are having to close the store until further notice. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused'.

Warwickshire Public Health has confirmed that the store took "quick action" to close.

The body has stressed that it is "unlikely" that any customers came into contact with the staff member.

A statement has been provided by Warwickshire Public Health.

Emily van de Venter, Associate Director of Public Health in Warwickshire, said: "We are aware that the Bermuda Park Screwfix in Nuneaton closed yesterday when one of their members of staff became unwell with potential Covid-19 symptoms.

"As a precautionary measure, while they wait for test results, Screwfix have taken swift action to close the store in Nuneaton to safeguard both the wellbeing of its workforce and customers.

"In addition, the company are also reviewing any close contacts with the case in the Nuneaton store in preparation for the possibility of a positive test result.

"Due to the robust measures already in place to protect customers, it is unlikely that any customers had close contact with the staff member concerned.

"However, I commend Screwfix for their swift action and for ensuring the safety of both their staff and customers."

Coventry Live has made repeated attempts to contact Screwfix for a comment.

It is unclear how long the store will remain closed.

What's the point? It's always the same stock reply: "The safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers is our number one priority, blah, blah, blah..."
