Parts of Nuneaton and Bedworth have higher numbers of Covid-19 cases than other areas of the borough - and other parts of Coventry and Warwickshire - it has been revealed.

But despite the news there were coronavirus hot spots the council said there were no plans for a Leicester-style lockdown.

The news comes just a day after health bosses said Covid-19 cases in Nuneaton and Bedworth were reducing - though people were urged not to become complacent.

After the mini spike in cases, which led to 27 deaths at the George Eliot Hospital in June, bosses at Warwickshire County Council said yesterday that cases were reducing ‘slowly and steadily’.

But today Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council released what it described as ‘an urgent coronavirus statement’.

It said that the latest public health information revealed coronavirus hot spots - with some areas of the borough having higher cases of Covid-19.

The area that is particularly affected is the Wem Brook ward in Nuneaton.

The Wem Brook ward is centred on the Hill Top area, but extends south to beyond Gipsy Lane and north up to Riversley Road and the ring road.

The borough council statement said: “Latest information received from public health shows that some areas of the borough have had, and continue to have, higher cases of Covid-19 than others and compared to other parts of Coventry and Warwickshire.

“The information shows that Wem Brook ward is particularly affected.”

“If you are able, please wear a mask or other face covering to further help stop the spread of the virus.”

If there's one thing Nuneaton dwellers don't need advice on it's how to wear a mask! :rolling:
