They come into force at midnight at the George Eliot Hospital

Children are being asked to stay away from a Warwickshire hospital under new visiting restrictions set to come into force.

As of tomorrow (Monday, March 16) there will be strict restrictions in place at the George Eliot Hospital, in Nuneaton, - until further notice.

Hospital visiting hours have been restricted to 1pm to 6pm.

Only one visitor is allowed per patient - a maximum of two visitors a day.

'Eliot bosses say children under 16 should not visit and those aged over 70, particularly those with long term health conditions, are being urged to 'think carefully' before visiting the hospital.

It has been stressed that exceptions to these new restrictions may very occasionally be made on compassionate grounds, but these must be agreed with the appropriate ward manager.

Daljit Athwal , director of nursing , said “Our top priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, staff and visitors. We understand that these restrictions will be difficult for some patients and their loved ones but at the same time, I hope people understand why we are taking this precautionary step.

"We continue to plan ahead and take proportionate actions that are in the best interests of patient care and safety. We also need to support our dedicated hospital staff so they can continue to focus all their efforts on the people they are caring for."

People should also not visit our hospital if they have:

  • A fever
  • A cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
But patients are being told they should continue to attend their hospital appointments unless otherwise advised by the hospital.

Earlier this week, the 'Eliot admitted that there had been a surge in the number of people attending the hospital over concerns about COVID-19.

There were also concerns raised by board members about the impact the coronavirus will have on already under-pressure staff.

Sadly, a patient being treated for coronavirus in intensive care at the 'Eliot passed away on Wednesday.

Visiting hours cut as tighter restrictions enforced at George Eliot Hospital

Visiting hours have been cut as tighter restrictions are enforced at Nuneaton's hospital.

Visitors will now only be allowed at George Eliot Hospital from 6pm until 8pm only.

There is also a one visitor per bed rule and the ban on all children under 16 visiting remains in plans.

Visitors aged over the age of 70, particularly those with long term health conditions, are being urged to 'carefully consider' whether they should visit patients at the hospital.

Meanwhile, all visiting at hospitals in Coventry and Rugby has been suspended amidst coronavirus fears.

The only exceptions to the strict new rules at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire and Rugby’s Hospital of St Cross is for visits to paediatrics, for those with birthing partners and visits on compassionate grounds.

Patients have also been told they still need to attend their appointments.

That's good when so many vulnerable kids there as they ve said no one is exempt from this virus.

Strange how the Spanish flu killed mainly the healthy with a strong immune system 40 and under and started in Kanas USA yet this one is the opposite and from China .
