Man arrested after woman stabbed to death in Rugby

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death in Warwickshire.

Police said the 45-year-old man was also injured in the incident at a property in Winfield Street, Rugby, at about 2245 BST on Saturday.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance and found a man and a woman who both had suffered stab injuries.

The man has undergone surgery to his stomach and he remains in hospital. The woman died on the way to hospital.

'Will be questioned'

A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Sunday.

A police spokeswoman said the woman's identity would not be released until formal identification had taken place.

"The man and woman were both immediately transferred to hospital, but the woman was declared dead on arrival," the spokeswoman added.

"The male, who is 45 years, underwent surgery to an injury to his stomach and currently remains in hospital.

"He has been placed under arrest and will be questioned on suspicion of murder."
