New studio apartments for students have been given the green light in Coventry.

The plans to build 13 new flats, along with associated parking have been approved after a number of prior refusals.

It means that work is now able to get underway at the Berry Street site in Hillfields.

The two storey building is set to be home to individual studio apartments, with 13 in total.

It is set to be the latest in a number of new and ongoing student accommodation projects across the city.

Plans submitted to Coventry City Council by the IDP Group on behalf of an applicant outlined proposals to build the 13 studio apartments on land at 59-69 Berry Street.

It is thought that the existing buildings here will be demolished.

What's more, the plans reveal that the flats will be for student use.

According to the planning application, this application "will create a visually attractive layout of distinctive character.

"The development proposed will be attractive and blend in with existing properties in terms of both use and design.

"The proposed heights and design of buildings reflects that of existing buildings in the area in terms of type, design and materials."

The plans to build student apartments on Berry Street have been a long time in the pipeline - with the initial application submitted in 2015.

Initially, this was for 14 rooms, and was approved.

It is not known why this was not brought to fruition, but applications for 47 rooms, followed by 22 rooms followed in 2017, though both of these were refused.

According to council planning documents, there were issues with over intensification with these applications.

When did 'bedsits' suddenly become "studio apartments"?

When someone realised that a name change equalled (lots) more money! Cynic? Moi?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
