Man suffers knife wounds in city centre attack

A man suffered serious injuries in a knife attack in Coventry city centre.

The victim was found with slash wounds to both of his arms after making his way to Cross Cheaping at around 4.30pm on Monday (July 15).

It is believed that he was attacked either in, or just off, nearby Palmer Lane.

A number of police officers and medics were called to the scene and an area outside KFC and the The Pawnbroker was taped off. Blood could be seen on the pavement.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We were alerted to a knife attack in Coventry city centre just before 4.30pm on Monday (July 15).

"A man has suffered slash injuries to both arms and been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

"It's understood the incident happened off Palmer Lane."

Man ambushed in city centre machete attack

More details have emerged on an attack which left a man with serious injuries following an incident in Coventry city centre yesterday.

Police have confirmed five men attacked one man with a machete just before 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.

The victim was found with cuts to both of his arms and chest after making his way to Cross Cheaping at around 4.30pm on Monday (July 15).

It is now confirmed it was a targeted attack, and a woman was also injured in the incident, which is believed to have started on Palmer Lane.

The 34-year-old man was taken to hospital , where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We’ve launched an investigation after a man was slashed with a machete in Coventry city centre yesterday in what we understand was a targeted attack.

"A group of around five men attacked the 34-year-old off Palmer Lane just before 4.30pm and left him with cuts to his arms and chest; the victim remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"A woman he was with also suffered minor injuries.

"Enquiries are underway to identify and arrest the men responsible and our officers are scouring CCTV in the city centre. No arrests have been made at this stage."
