Family 'distraught' after baseball bat burglars stole £20k worth of items from Coventry homeA FAMILY is distraught after baseball bat burglars stole items worth more than £20,000 from their Coventry home.
And the homeowner Richard Gate has appealed for information from anyone who saw the youths or an SUV they escaped in on Poundgate Lane, Canley, at around 2pm.
The father of two told us his family now feel unsafe in their own home and are ‘distraught’ after the brazen daylight burglary.
The thieves stole his wife’s jewellery which has huge sentimental value as well as two Rolex watches – one worth nearly £10,000.
But Mr Gate said he is also thankful he and his family were not in at the time, as one of his neighbours was attacked in her own home only weeks before.
He also said he was frustrated with the police response but understood they were working under extreme pressure.
He said: “We got home from work today (Wednesday, May 29) and found our house had been broken into.
“We have CCTV of three youths armed with baseball bats jumping over our fence, throwing a plant pot through our back window. “The alarm went off but they still entered the house, stole a number of high value items including jewellery, watches etc and escaped in a car.
“This all happened between 2.05pm and 2.15pm and we think the car was a grey/light blue Peugeot 3008 SUV with three to four youths in it.”
Conservative Councillor David Skinner said: “There have been other unpleasant events in our Ward recently.
“Total security can never be obtained, but please take every precaution you can.”
