Trains between Birmingham and London were delayed by up to more than an hour yesterday due to pigeons.
Several birds hit a West Midlands Railway train between Coventry and Rugby, badly damaging it and blocking the southbound line for several hours.
The train operator said its 14:14 Birmingham New Street service to Euston suffered damage to its braking system, meaning another train had to be sent to "rescue it".
Many trains were rerouted, leaving operators like Virgin Trains and London Northwestern to break the news to disgruntled passengers.
