Police are investigating a shooting in Coventry city centre after two men suffered gunshot injuries last night.

Officers were called to Far Gosford Street at around 10.30pm on Monday night (September 17) and a short while later two men turned up at hospital with gunshot wounds.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A section of Far Gosford Street at the junction of Bramble Street was still cordoned off this morning.

Police also cordoned off All Saints' Square, a small park between Sky Blue Way and Far Gosford Street.

One witness, who did not wish to be named, claimed “shots were fired” outside a chicken shop on Far Gosford Street at around 11pm last night and that there were a large number of armed response officers at the scene.

There are also reports that the police helicopter was up around the Hillfields area at around midnight.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Police are investigating a shooting in Coventry after officers were called to Far Gosford Street at around 10.30pm last night (Monday 17 September).

"A short time later two men, aged 18 and 21, presented at hospital with gunshot injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening."
