Such was the sheer number of calls outs, Warwickshire Police said it was busier than it was on New Year's Eve
A dozen police cars, undercover cops and an ambulance descended on Nuneaton town centre after jubilation over England’s World Cup win spiralled into violence.
They swarmed to Bridge Street after reports of mass disorder breaking out in the streets after the match at around 6pm yesterday.
When officers arrived, they found three men lying on the floor.
A Good Samaritan was caring for one of the men, then police took over first aid before paramedics took over.
It was due to the threat of further trouble that such a huge police presence was in town, much to the shock of onlookers and shoppers.
One man, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital with facial injuries. Two other men also suffered facial injuries but they were treated at the scene.
The Bridge Street violence was just one of a huge number of call-outs for Warwickshire Police Force yesterday.
