Coventry has been basking in glorious temperatures this week and the mini heatwave is set to continue.

But those hoping to cool off in the city's water feature will be disappointed to hear it isn't open this weekend.

The Splash 'n' Play zone at War Memorial Park , Kenilworth Road, remains closed while the council work on a "technical fault".

This is not the first time the water park has had to shut during hot weather due to technical difficulties since its opening.

Coventry City Council is hoping to be able to open the play area at weekends in the run up to the school holidays, when it will be open daily.

Daytime temperatures soared to 27 degrees this week and are predicted to stay above 20 well into next week.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are currently trying to resolve a technical fault with the water feature and once we have this issue resolved we will hopefully be running the feature at weekends until the summer holidays when it will run daily.

"We apologise for the delay and hope it will be up and running soon.”

Since its opening in 2003, the water feature has been plagued with problems.

It was completed more than a year behind schedule and was open for just one month before it was shut down following parents’ claims that it was making their children ill.

At the time, the council denied the water feature was responsible but the authority later admitted the problem was likely caused by the fact the feature’s water tank was not big enough to flush out dirty water and bugs.

More than 70 compensation claims were later launched against the council as a result of the health scare.

The council later re-opened the splash zone but in July 2014 it had to be shut down again after the site’s pump room was flooded by heavy rain and a water pump failed.

It'll be open when it's freezing cold and chucking it down with rain! :rolling:

CCC aren't capable of running the proverbial in a brewery. :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
