Arsonists left a trail of burned-out wrecks after going on the rampage in Coventry.

At least four cars were torched in the Tile Hill area of the city just after 2am on Friday, June 1.

In one of the incidents the owners of a flat had to climb out of a window to get out after the flames set fire to their property.

Two other cars were set on fire in the neighbourhood on previous nights.

West Midlands Fire Service said firefighters arrived at the first fire in Goodman Way, Tile Hill North, at 2.04am.

They then tackled a burning car in Thirlmere Close, Tile Hill South, a few minutes later, followed by two cars on fire in Broad Lane at 2.16am.

A couple of nights previously, arsonists had targeted cars in Bushberry Avenue and Roosevelt Drive, both in Tile Hill North.

One resident described the spate as 'really frightening.'

Another witness said: “A fireman said [the arsonists] had set five cars on fire within streets of each other.

"One spread to two cars and damaged the door and window of the flat by its side.

"The owners of the flat had to climb out of their window to get out.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We are investigating after suspected arson attacks where cars were damaged at around 2am.

"No-one was injured and anyone with information is asked to call 101; quoting crime reference number 20CV/121320R/18."
