Mount Judd beat off competition from Big Ben and the Angel of the North to take the title

Nuneaton’s Mount Judd has been crowned the UK’s best landmark in a landslide public vote victory reminiscent of the Boaty McBoatface win.

The town’s towering icon, also sometimes referred to as the Nuneaton Nipple, beat off stiff competition from the likes of the Angel of the North and Big Ben to win the public vote.

It was run by the Mirror online to find Britain’s best monument.

The Nuneaton Nipple topped the poll beating out close contenders the Giant's Causeway, Stonehenge coming third and neighbouring Coventry Cathedral.

Climbing the man-made mound was, for a generation in the town, a rite of passage.

But it's now classed as trespassing if people attempt to get to the top.

Only last year pranksters put half a Mini car at the summit of Mount Judd, prompting warning pleas for people to stay away as it is on private land, as well as health and safety concerns about trespassing.

According to an online guide to England's mountains and hills online, Mount Judd is the 16403rd highest peak in the British Isles and the 3306th tallest in England.

Patriotic pranksters strike at Nuneaton's famed landmark

Patriotic pranksters have scaled Nuneaton’s famed landmark and hoisted up a St George’s flag.

It is understood the flag has been at the top of Mount Judd since Sunday evening, the day England’s Three Lions mauled Panama in the World Cup.

The appearance of the flag has caused a stir in the community and is the latest object to be placed at the top of the manmade mound.

Only a few months ago half a Mini car was left at the top of the heap.

For generations of folk, climbing Mount Judd was a right of passage, but owners FCC Environment have repeatedly stressed that such actions should not take place as it is trespassing.
