Coventry drug dens closed down under new powers - but only for 48 hours

Complaints led to the properties being targeted by the authorities

A number of drug dens in Coventry were closed down - but only for 48 hours.

The undisclosed properties in Hillfields and Spon End were issued with closure notices following complaints from neighbours regarding drug taking and dealing.

This meant that the properties - which were all addresses in communal blocks - were prohibited from having any visitors while the notice was in place.

Anyone found in the properties during that time would have been liable to arrest.

The notices were executed at four properties having been successfully granted to West Midlands Police, Coventry City Council and Whitefriars Housing.

They came after repeated reports and complaints regarding drugs issues and anti-social behaviour.

While the notices were in place there were no complaints about the properties and neighbours said they had suffered no nuisance behaviour.

The new powers mean that any subsequent closure of the properties, either for a longer time period or permanently, are easier to obtain.

48 hours, what a farce! They were back in business two days later! :fuming:

Yep which is a waste of Tax payers money. They will likely say we know where they are so we can keep an eye on them never mind who lives they are making a misery of.

Why these kind get housed over others that would appreciate a roof over their heads eg like the homeless I dont know.
