A Warwickshire headteacher is earning between £270,001 and £280,000 a year - far more than Prime Minister Theresa May’s £150k salary.

The huge wage packet Lois Reed, head of Ashlawn School in Rugby, took home in the 2016/17 academic year was revealed in financial accounts published on the school’s website.

And her pay has been upped by at least £50,000 from the previous year.

The academy school, which is partially selective, is part of the Transforming Lives Education Trust which also includes Ashlawn Teaching School and the Henry Hinde Infant School.

As well as her headteacher duties, Ms Reed is acting chief executive officer and accounting officer for the trust.

The Department for Education suggests the maximum a headteacher outside of the London area should be paid is £109,366. The guidance on teacher pay also suggests the minimum wage should be £39,374.

A spokesman for the trust said it had now launched a review to “inform and strengthen the pay awards process”.
