Those who missed collections should leave their bins out ready for tomorrow

Households across Nuneaton and Bedworth who missed bin collections due to bad weather are being advised to leave them out for collection.

That is the message from Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council after collections had to be stopped on Friday due to the arctic conditions.

Cllr Barry Longden, cabinet member responsible for bin collections at the Town Hall, praised the workforce for their efforts throughout the week.

But he said that some collections were hit and those who did not have their bins emptied should leave them out tomorrow (Monday, February 5) so crews can play catch up.

"All things considered the staff have done exceptionally well in these adverse weather conditions, the worse in 30 years apparently," he said.

"Rain is forecast over the weekend and if that is true a lot of the snow will be washed away.

"However, if icy conditions prevail it may mean the vehicles will not be able to get on the roads.

"Everything is being done to maintain the service, and decisions will be made at the latest point they can be made on the basis of staff and public safety.

"I am sure you will appreciate that this is not an exact science and we are at the mercy of some extreme and peculiar weather systems.

"In the event of service being suspended a programme of catch-up will be implemented which may mean bins being left out longer than normal, some changed days and some weekend work being undertaken to get the service back to normal as quickly as possible."
