Motorists are being warned that a bust stretch of road in Nuneaton will remain CLOSED.

Despite assurances that Hinckley Road would be re-opened later today, Severn Trent Water has conceded that that is not now the case.

While the leak has been fixed, there remains a huge hole in the road and the works to fill it will not start until tomorrow (Tuesday, January 16).

“We’d like to apologise to everyone affected by this delay in reinstating the road,” a spokesperson said.

“We’re very aware of the problems that have been caused and are confident of getting a team out first thing tomorrow morning.’

It will mean that the stretch of road, close to the bridge and the new Lidl store, will have been shut since Friday afternoon, when the water main burst.

Chaos was caused during rush-hour this morning as motorists attempted to make their way across the busy area of town.

Ward councillor Keith Kondakor has raged that 17,000 have been hit by the closure and is demanding action be taken by Warwickshire County Council to fine the firm.

"It is appalling, the leak was fixed on Saturday yet they have left it and left it," he said.

"We can't just keep letting these multi-million pound companies get away with not making repairs, I reckon 17,000 go under that bridge."

Water firm to be hit with £3,000 fine for Nuneaton road repair delays

A water firm is in a ‘hole’ lot of trouble and is being hit with a £3,000 fine for not making quick repairs to a busy Nuneaton road.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) will be penalising Severn Trent Water for the nightmare caused by the delay in fixing a hole in Hinckley Road.

In a post on Facebook, St Nicolas ward councillor Rob Tromans said: “I can confirm that WCC Highways have issued Severn Trent with a £3,000 fine.

“I am also assured by Councillor Jeff Clarke that a further fine will be issued if necessary.”
