Thieves went on a shopping spree in Coventry - spending thousands of pounds - after stealing a 97-year-old woman’s bank card.

The culprits overheard the elderly woman struggling with a cashpoint outside Tesco on Stratford Road, Solihull, on November 26 and offered to help.

But instead, they stole her bank card and went on a shopping spree in Coventry, spending thousands on watches and other luxury items.

Police have now released images of two men they believe may have vital information and are eager to speak to them.

Investigating officer Lucinda Wilson, from West Midlands Police, said: “The woman is absolutely distraught that this has happened to her, especially so close to Christmas.

“The people responsible exploited an elderly lady’s vulnerability to steal from her. They may try the same ploy with someone else, so we want to trace them as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime number 20SH/256806T/17, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org
