Central Six store will close in a few weeks

Mothercare is set to shut down its Coventry store for good in just a few weeks’ time.

The retailer of baby and children’s goods has been a mainstay of the Central Six Retail Park since it opened in the city during the late 1990s.

It is the latest blow for the shopping park which has also suffered the loss of clothing giants Gap , shoe company Brantano and outdoor store Mountain Warehouse in recent years.

Bosses at Mothercare do not appear to be considering opening elsewhere in the city as the firm moves to a strategy of becoming a “digitally-led business”.

It also means the Early Learning Centre, which is based in the store, will close permanently.

The PixiFoto photography studio concession, which was based in the store, left the shop last month.

The impending closure means parents will face a 25-mile round trip to visit the next nearest Mothercare store, in Leamington Spa.

A spokesman for Mothercare told the Telegraph: “Mothercare Coventry will close on Monday, October 2 2017.

“We will be emailing our customers in the local area to advise of the changes and provide details of the nearest stores.

“We greatly value all our customers in the local area and would like to thank them for their continued loyalty and support for Mothercare.

“Whilst we regret the closure of the store, it is part of a larger transformation plan for our business.”

There has been no clarification over the number of jobs which could be at risk as a result of the move.

Edgerley Simpson Howe (ESH), which manages the retail park, has been approached for comment.
