RSPCA investigation after three cats shot in Coventry

An investigation is under way after three cats were shot in the same part of Coventry



Four-year-old cat Bensi was shot with an air rifle on 26 June in Earlsdon Avenue South, Earlsdon.

Two other cats have been shot on neighbouring streets since April. None of the cats have died, but one had to have its leg amputated.

The proximity of the shootings has led the RSPCA to believe the same person is behind the attacks.

The RSPCA is advising cat owners to be cautious and is appealing for information.

A two-year-old cat named Meg was shot on 22 May.

The cat was left with a fractured rib, a ruptured diaphragm and a bruised lung.

Smudge, 10, was shot in the leg with an air gun pellet on 12 April and had to have the injured leg amputated.

RSPCA inspector Louise Marston said: "All of the cats live on streets which are next to each other, so I have no doubt in my mind that the same person is committing these horrible acts.

"I am extremely concerned that there is someone deliberately targeting cats in the area, again and again.

"We are urging cat owners in the area to be cautious and to keep an eye on their pet for any signs of injuries."

Police are aware of the shootings.
