Body found in Coventry river after grim discovery by kayaker

It is the third body found in the city in a matter of weeks

The body of a man was pulled from a river in Coventry after being spotted by a member of the public.

The discovery was made in the River Sowe near to Barbican Rise, Stoke Hill, on the afternoon of Saturday, June 24.

Details were only made public today after enquiries by the Coventry Telegraph.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “The body of a man was found in the river by a member of the public around 2.30pm on June 24 off Barbican Rise in Coventry.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.”

It was claimed that the body was discovered by a kayaker. The fire service’s specialist water recovery unit was called and the body took several hours to recover.

The discovery is the third body found in Coventry in recent weeks.

A member of the public found the body of a man in Longford Park on Monday morning. Police say that death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police also found the body of a woman called Audrey Kiernan at the lake in Swanswell Park on June 19.

An inquest in to the mum-of-three’s death was opened and heard that she went for a swim in the early hours after drinking alcohol.
