"Vicar's wife was a racy stripper"

THIS vicar's wife has revealed a rather saucy sin — she used to be a STRIPPER.


Diane Stephenson made her racy confession in the church magazine and said she was sick of the stereotype that came with having a vicar for a hubby.

The 44-year-old mum-of-five hung up her fishnets and stilettos years ago, but says she would do it all again if she still had the body for it.

Diane married Rev David Stevenson of St Mary's Church, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, 14 years ago and said: "I was fed up of being introduced to people as the vicar's wife, I'm a person in my own right.

"People would introduce themselves to me and say what they did straight away as if that would affect my opinion of them so I started doing it back.

"Now I say I'm Diane and I used to be a stripper. I love seeing the looks on people's faces."

In the newsletter shapely Diane tells how after struggling to find work in Nottingham in the late 1980s she got the job as an exotic dancer and worked in a club for almost two years.

In the parish magazine — Focus — she said she was unsure to start with, but added: "It was good money, good bonuses and great fun. There were 16 girls and two lads who worked there and we had such a laugh."

Diane met her husband in church years after she had stopped stripping.

She added: "I would do it again now if I had the body for it but five kids have taken their toll.

"They all know what I did and none of them are bothered, if any of my daughters said to me they wanted to be a stripper I wouldn't care.

Diane is now studying at the University of Derby to be a student nurse and says she has no regrets about her past.

She added: "At the end of the day, as soon as anyone steps into the church everyone is equal no matter what their job is or who they are."

Mr Stevenson said: "I can't remember when it was she told me but I wasn't bothered.

"Jesus worked with all sorts of people, no one should judge anyone's past. It's all about seeing people for who they are."

The couple have three children together, two daughters aged 12 and ten and a son aged nine. Mrs Stephenson also has a son, 21, and daughter, 20, from a previous marriage.
