Sweet thief handed an eight-week prison sentence

Postby dutchman » Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:29 pm

A shoplifter was jailed for eight weeks after being caught stealing £14 of sweets

Claire Birch admitted swiping the sweets from Poundworld, at the Gallagher Retail Park.

Coventry Magistrates' Court heard she had committed seven offences between Christmas and her court appearance in a bid to feed her drug habit.

Magistrates were told that Birch, 23, of Drake Street, Foleshill, was tested for drugs following her arrest and was found to have both cocaine and opiates in her system.

She was jailed for eight weeks and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Good to see the courts have got their priorities right!

When you look at the other sentences handed out this does seem rather OTT doesn't it?

Are the judiciary fools?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
